Royal Caribbean has an exclusive getaway on a peninsula in Haiti that caters to cruise travelers in a quaint and comfortable setting of tropical paradise. Compared to Royal's other private destinations, it is smaller in size and a little less hectic. This creates a more relaxed, laid-back vibe with wonderful ocean views and great Caribbean culture and people.

Inside of Labadee there is yet an even more private location called Barefoot Beach. This is a beach area that is reserved for Suite guests onboard Royal Caribbean's cruise ships.

Once you enter, you are welcomed by friendly staff that will help you get settled among the tropical setting. You have many options under soft shade trees, umbrellas or along the beach to get your sun. The cove is quiet with soft waves and great views of the ship. This is a no-cost private beach to Suite guests, which is a rare thing in today's cruise industry. Most cruise lines are charging entry fees for adult or exclusive beach clubs at destinations, even for Suite guests.

Once you have claimed your spot for the day, staff will serve you the ever-needed frozen drinks. You also have access to floats to take for free out into the warm waters. If you like to snorkel, the lagoon is a great area to float and see the sights. There is even an underwater airplane that is now a haven for ocean life including lion fish, moray eels and crabs.

If you are starting to get hungry, a nice buffet lunch is available inside the Barefoot Beach area with some local tastes. Don't forget the cookies!

If you are with a larger group, you may want to look into the private cabanas that are offered along the beach. Not only do you get amazing views, comfortable seating and direct water access, you will also have direct service whenever you need it. It is an up-charge, but may be worth it, especially with larger groups, for even more pampering and exclusivity.

The sad news about Labadee is due to the turmoil currently occurring in Haiti, creating safety concerns for for visitors. As a cautionary stance, Royal Caribbean has suspended visits to this destination multiple times, but as things change occasionally open it back up. There are rumors of Royal shutting down Labadee in the future, due to the inability to use this location consistently and the opening of even more amazing destinations in the future.
Labadee is a hidden gem in Royal Caribbean's destination pocket. There are so many amazing sites, views and people to experience. If you have the chance to visit and are in a Suite, by all means take advantage of this amazing location, while you can!
